I think they are great! ESPECIALLY that one but i don't read them as works of genious as others do, they are just escapism really...good fun though. Personally...i didnt care too much for the two with the DA in. Not very exciting or revealing i thought.

At some point I'll do a decent review of each, but you do need to read the opening trilogy to really get Eisenstein, plus Fulgrim also overlaps with the first three. The rest more or less work as one offs (although the DA books should be read in order), and aren't published in chronological order.
In general though I'd give each book in the series the following out of 10...
Horus Rising - 7 False Gods - 7 Galaxy in Flames - 6 Flight of the Eisenstein - 8 Fulgrim - 7 Descent of Angels - 6 Legion - 9 Battle for the Abyss - 6 Mechanicum - 6 Tales of Heresy - 5 Fallen Angels - 9
Besides that I've not read a huge amount of 40k BL stuff. I don't much like Dan Abbnet and can't finish the Eisenhorn omnibus. It's annoying, dull and tedious.
The Blood Ravens books are ok. Bill King's Space Wolf books are fantastic (as are all the BK Gotrek & Felix novels - go and by them now!).
Dark Apostle is SHIT. Utter crap. I hate the bizarre inept comedy/bond villain style the Silly Priests acquired in this book and have displayed ever since.

But it has a big hanger in the middlepartDescent of Angels - 6 5 - disapointing and almost boringLegion - 9 5 - I didn't liked it for it's strange writing style, for me as a non native it was sometimes hard to follow and to read... and I didn't get the point of the story... lolBattle for the Abyss - 6 9 - I really enjoyed reading this after DA and Legion, was a great sci-fi battleship action story I liked it very muchMechanicum - 6 7 - was OkTales of Heresy - 5 - Like every Collection of short stories it got plus's and minus's. The best is the "Last Church" story Fallen Angels - 9 9 - since the Decesnt of Angels was boring and well yeah... this picks up the storyline and is very exciting to read... I have to finish the last pages. Great fun to read and discover the Angels darkest secret | | | | |
I have read aswell "Heroes of the Space Marines" but that was rather boring... because it's again a collection of short stories....

HA...yeah I thought Dark Apostle/disciple were lame..all that reading for a crap ending. heres a list of what I have read with a simple run down 1-10. <Nurgling Food BOOKS> Fifteen Hours = 7.5 my first book read in the 40k universe. Not heavily battle saturated but gives a look into the hardships of a human thrown into war. Rebel Winter = 8.5 A fine look into the Vostroyans. Harsh arctic warriors battling the ork's . Well written. I can remember the great discription about a tank driver being engulfed in flames..it was horrible but it felt as if I was sitting right there with him.
Death World = 8 Think of Rambo in space. Pretty cool look into the Cat in a Can's regiment. Killer plant life await these soldiers and so do the orcs. Campy killer fun
Desert Raiders = 7 It takes about 90 pgs to get good but once it starts from there its pretty good. I give it a 7 because it took solong to get good ,other than that youcan see the TAllarn come face to face with the Tyranids.
Ice Guard = 7 Pretty disappointing because of the ending.
GUNHEADS = 8 Yeah pretty goodbook about a tank regiment! The regiment is up against a large horde of Orks...Good vehicular battles!
Gaunt's Ghost = 4 I do not remember what it was , but I could not finish it. I just felt robbed. dan abnett to me is a hit n miss.
Double Eagle = 4 Once again I could not even finish this book. maybe if i have a chance I shall try again. Suppose to be about aerial warfights .
... I shall post more when I get the time or after another reply.

Storm of Iron is the only 40k book I've so far enjoyed enough to re-read, though I recently read both Horus Rising and Dark Gods so maybe it'll soon have some contesters for that title.

Simple review of W40K books involving the Adeptus Astartes <space marines> Soul Drinker = 6 This book was pretty meh, it was the first book I read about the Space Marines and I was not satisfied. Not one of Ben Counters best.
Brothers of the Snake = 9! A pretty impressive dan Abnett book. Love the way it spans from a simple rogue mission into a secretive ork/Smelldar mission. The rites of passage that these marines go thru is just epic. I would definitley recommend this book.
Silvery Twats = 9.5 A Ben Counter gem. These Daemon killers are badass to the core. There is this one chapter where they land on this planet and do not offer any assistance , because they simply were there to recover a relic..not help the peasants <these guys are F'in hardcore> Later on they team up with the S.o.B. and wreak havoc. A lord from the changer of ways is involved...amazing book.
Hammer of Daemons = 9.5 Once again B.C does it again. This time Aleric is kiling daemons all on his own. Its a romanesque splatterfest in space. Truly brutal story that involves Angry Red Git-ites.
Flatulent Geckos = 7 . So far I am trying to finish this book but It is slowly coming along. For a chapter that is supposed to be badass this book is kinda slow. on pg 224 so i have 173 pg left. The rating might change.
Heroes of the Space Marines = 6.5 its a mixed bag here. The best story in this book is Headhunted by Steve Parker ..it a story involving the Deathwatch regiment. Excellent piece. and the others are meh.
