OK, so as some of you should know I had my first ever battle with my new army and the new rules yesterday.
It was against a tau force which (sorry Moto) means I have no idea at all what I was fighting. There was a big tank with a very big gun on it and two little 'drone' things. 3 units of infantry and 3 set of 'crisis'? suits (only one set made it onto the board)
I used the list i posted in the leaking list section (which is short hand for "I aint typing it out again")
ok so we had the 'capture the flag' mission and faced of against each other along the long table edges.
The mistakes I made where only leaving one unit of PM's to defend my flag and sending the other 3 after his. (although I did have one PM left at the end of the game despite him shooting at that unit every turn!)
trying to march a unit of PM's though a long forest which they never got out of, and not making sure my plasma guns where at the front of my units and so IN RANGE! once i had moved the unit. The other was when I wasnt in range....I should have RUN forward....silly phillip.
I set up with my mad dreadnought on its own to my far right, the defending pm squad next (heading for the cover just infront of my flag), then my vindicator and the 3 other pm squads to my left oppostire his flag (the melta guns in the rhino) and my termies DS'ing.
he had one sqd on his flag, another in the middle another to my right with his big tank and all his 'crisis'? suits DS'ing.
The game only lasted 3 turns 'cos he finished work at 6

and i wont bore you with a blow by blow account just tell you what happened.
all the infantry that could see my defending pm sqd shot at it, as did his big tank. everything else shot at my other pm sqds I think about 3 died altogether. My dreadnought then fired its twin lascannons at the big tank and removed its best gun. my vindi only fired twice in the game and both times i rolled a hit! killing a total of 15 tau, although niether time did they run away andit worked out to be less points killed than i spent on the tank

. (the second time it fired i should have moved the tank to face the 'crisis'? suits that had arrived....i didnt....it couldnt see them......they could see it....my vindi died in their shooting phase. silly phillip.)
on his second turn, 3 'crisis'? suits turned up behind my dread and promptly blew the living crap out of it 3 times leaving nothing but two feet in the ground and he shot at my marines some more killing about the same number.
my turn (this is when i didnt point my vindi at his 'crisis'? suits) my termy lord and his boys came on and DS next to my icon in my rhino. my rhino kept zooming at his flag and my PM's jumped out and shot at the floor mostly, one tau died to a 'magic' bullet his head going back and to the left....back and to the left...back...and to the left.
his turn then saw the end of my vindi and only one pm left in my defending sqd (plucky fellow) and he only lived because I started to make my FNP rolls. (at one point i rolled 5 ones on the trot killing two plasma gunners....this apparently put me in the same class as one of the veteran guys there.....he was happy to have me, i was less happy) he mostly shot at my termies and one died.
i shot at and assaulted his sqd defending his flag with my melta sqd i killed one he killed one it was a tie, shot and charged with my termies at his central sqd wiped them out and headed towards his last sqd to my right thinking if i delt with them I couldnt lose the battle (he would have no troops etc) and everything else moved forward towards his flag.
the game ends with niether of us in control of either flag. a draw. although he still had 2 units of 'crisis'? suits waiting to DS and cause me trouble.
I learnt that Tau are AWFUL in CC and my dice rolls are worse! which is how i remember them.....despite trying out what Jervis suggested in the last WD!
So I had fun in the main but the best part fo me was he kept picking up my models and asking if i got this from FW, or if this was GS or part of the model....which i guess means they look ok up close! yay

anyway i didnt get to play another game as eveyone was busy, i watched a few though.
there is a new rule which means kids of pretty much any age can use the game room (it was a 16 and over rule) which isnt soo great but hey. Also guess what....you remember that rule they had, about having to have everything painted before you can use them on a table in the store? Well apparently that rule lasted 2 weeks before they dropped it.
This upset me some what. sigh.
Although I think I will stick with the, "if it aint painted I aint gonna use it" rule as it seems to speed me up!
